Murugan fancy dress costume | Lord Muruga Birthday 2018
Hi I am Sharva..I have dressed up as Lord Muruga on this special occasion called Vaikasi Visakam 2018.
Why Today(May 28, 2018) ? Because, Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated in the honor of Lord Muruga, the God of War and Courage. It is the Birth Anniversary(Birthday) of Lord Muruga.
Vaigasi Visakam falls on the full moon day or Pournami during tamil month of Vaikasi(may-june) on the Visakam star. Visakam is one of the 27 Nakshatras, the lunar mansion and it is the birth star of Lord Muruga.
On this day devotees visit nearby temples to perform milk Abhishekam to the Lord Muruga uttering VETRIVEL MURUGANUKU AROGARA...... They also carry Kavadi with heavy bearings. With this extent many also pierce their cheeks, tongue and lips by Vel. People also do perform special poojas by Chanting 108 time mantra and singing Kanda Sasti Kavasam, Thirupugal - Muthai Tharu for the deity.

11 Month Old Cute little baby, adorned with jewellery and Yellow Silk Dhoti, Crown, Garland, carrying Vel and peacock(his vehicle) nearby gives a complete feeling to the attire.
His one of the favorite God is Muruga. He often dance for Tamil Kadavul Murugan Title song uttering Muruga as Muga Muga ;)
Lord Muruga is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and brother of Lord Ganesha. The divine weapon called Vel, given by his mother Parvati. It is the symbol of courage(shakti), by his spear he destroy all the evil deeds.

Vel for Murugan fancy dress costume:
* All you need is a Cardboard sheet, Golden paper, white paper, pencil, eraser, scissors, glue, bamboo stick(you can easily remove it from kattapai, which is a wooden handle non woven bag available at your home).
* Draw a Vel and cut it out leaf shape, attach bamboo stick the backside of Vel, which is fully covered by golden paper.
* For Tripundra Tilak(Vibuthi patta), make 3 individual pieces of horizontal lines using white paper and take bindi place into centre of Vel.Thats it Divine Vel is ready.
Lord Murugan is known by his different names such as Karthikeya, Kumara, Skanda, Vadivela, Subramani, Shanmuga, Saravana and Muruga at various temples.
The six faces of Muruga is said to represent human body, breath, senses, mind, intelligence and ego, so called Lord Arumugam.
Vaikasi Visakam is celebrated every year with great zeal and fervour in temples(Arupadai Veedu, also called Six Abodes of Lord Muruga) as listed below,

Nice information... I'm in search on Lord murugar costume full set... But I couldn't get it...
