Durga Puja is celebrated every year in a grand manner in west Bengal, particularly in Kolkata, on the same day as Navaratri, a nine-night festival celebrating the divine feminine with decorated bamboo structures of Pandals at various places. The Celebrations differ based on the place, customs and beliefs. Somewhere it is for seven or ten days. Begins with Shasthi – sixth day and ends with VijayaDashami – the tenth day. It is celebrated during the last five days of Navaratri and Dussehra. In 2019, Durga puja takes place from October 4 to 7, namely Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and Vijayadashami followed by immersing the Goddess Durga Idols into the holy river the Ganges on October 8.
