The Festival of Saraswathi puja is dedicated
to Devi Saraswati who is the consort of Brahma, the creator, and is worshipped
as the Hindu Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, arts and
education.
During the puja, usage of white colour flowers
is considered to be very auspicious, Devotees do perform special puja and so do
children’s also offer note books and stationery items in front of the Goddess. It is believed that the children, who are weak
in studies, should chant hymns or slogans dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi.
On this day that Goddess Saraswati created
powerful weapons to kill the demon named Magishasuran. The weapons are then
considered as holy and people began to worship them. These rituals are followed
till the date and are celebrated as Ayudha Puja, where the weapons, instruments
and tools are worshipped.
Originally the Saraswathi puja and Ayudha pooja
was held for nine days during the Tamil month of puratasi (August-September)
the whole puja season so called as Navaratri or Nine Nights. The ninth day is
also called as Maha Navami.
This is one of the greatest of Hindu
festivals. People used to arrange god and goddess dolls on racks (Golu padi
which is a steps made of steel and wood) and sang goddess songs at night. These
events are called as Golu, in addition they do give sundals(food) for the
neighbours.
Wishes Everyone a Very Happy Saraswathi and
Ayudha Puja. May Goddess Saraswathi Bless you with Knowledge and Wisdom.
